An Undersea Adventure

Back

Whitsunday Regional Libraries welcomed Wild Puppets back to the region in early June 2021 to perform An Undersea Adventure. This free performance aimed to inspire children to imagine, create and explore through literacy. The interactive puppet show took children and families on an underwater journey onto the reef where they were visited by various sea creatures who swam through the audience and thrilled with their giant teeth (shark). Special lighting and effects gave everyone a real sense of floating on the ocean floor. Following the shared storybook, children were invited to perform their own story using shadow puppets before swimming to the surface and rowing back to shore.

Visual aids such as puppets are a great way to engage children and increase their participation in storytelling and are easy to make at home. Decorate a paper bag or sock to make a hand puppet, cut out shapes and stick onto a wooden skewer to make a shadow puppet, or just use your hand to make shapes! We hope that you and your child have lots of fun making up new adventures and starring in your own puppet shows.
