Big Library Read Campaign

Back

The next Big Library Read kicks off on 11 July 2024 with title "Twilight Territory" by Andrew X. Pham.  Our Library members can enjoy this novel as an eBook or eAudio for free between 11-25 July. Whitsunday Regional Library Readers can access the digital book with no waitlists or holds by downloading the Libby app. They can also participate in an online discussion with other readers from around the globe on July 11.

The Big Library Read digital book club connects readers through participating Australian and New Zealand public libraries with the same ebook for two weeks and only requires a valid library card to get started. This free program is facilitated by Overdrive, the leading digital reading platform for ebooks, audiobooks and magazines and creator of the award-winning Libby app.

Twilight Territory takes place in the peak of the hot season in 1942. The wars in Europe and Asia and the Japanese occupation have upset the uneasy balance of French Indochina. In the Vietnamese fishing village of Phan Thiet, Tuyet struggles to keep afloat working at a small storefront with her aunt, cousin, and her two-year-old daughter. The day Tuyet meets Japanese major Yamazaki Takeshi is inauspicious and stifling. But to her surprise, she feels a strange kinship to the wounded veteran with a good heart. As the Viet Minh begin to battle the French, Tuyet and her family are drawn into the conflict, with devastating consequences.
